Malappuram, Kerala: Paving history, a young athlete from a village in Malappuram is set to represent India on the global stage. Rahil Sakeer will become the first athlete from the district to participate in the World University Championships, which will be held in Germany from July 16 to 27.

Sakeer will compete in the 110m hurdles event. His selection came after an impressive performance at the All India Inter-University Athletics Championship held at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, where he won gold in the 110m hurdles, clocking a record time of 14.08 seconds.

Earlier, in 2018, Rahil had also secured a silver medal at the National Junior Athletics Championships, finishing the same event in 14.04 seconds. He showcased his talent by qualifying for the finals and securing 5th place in the 110m hurdles at the 38th National Games as well.

With his consistent performance and a personal best of 14.08 seconds, he has demonstrated both dedication and potential in hurdling events, positioning himself as a promising athlete on national and international stages.

The World University Championships (WUC) are international sporting competitions organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
