When Fifpro announced its World XI for the 2024 season when the inclusion of stars like Vinicius Jr, Erling Haaland, Rodri and Kylian Mbappe made headlines, the exclusion of several star performers, including Euro 2024 breakout star Lamine Yamal sparked debates.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, despite his limited appearances witnessed this year due to injury, was controversially included. The midfield is rounded off by 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, and his former teammate, the German maestro Toni Kroos. The inclusion of De Bruyne questioned whether it was based on his legacy or his actual contribution this year.
The omission of Yamal, who dazzled with Spain at Euro 2024, Real Madrid’s versatile Federico Valverde, and Manchester City’s rising star Cole Palmer, has also drawn ire.
The 2024 FIFPRO World 11 is the first edition since 2006 to exclude Messi. The Argentinian, who holds the record with 17 selections.
However, the forward line included Real Madrid’s lethal duo, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr who were joined by Manchester City’s prolific striking Erling Haaland. And their inclusion was celebrated due to their undeniable dominance across the club and international competitions.
Though FIFAPro World XI has been viewed as a benchmark of footballing experience, its selection has occasionally sparked debate over the balance between past reputation and current form.
