MS Dhoni To Take IPL Retirement Decision In Few Months

Following Chennai Super Kings (CSK) elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after the defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday, speculations around MS Dhoni”s future remain rife. It was speculated that the former CSK captain would bring down the curtains on his IPL career last season but he decided to keep going in the IPL 2024.

The veteran wicketkeeper batter returned to Ranchi on Sunday itself as he was one of the first ones from the CSK camp to return home, as per a report in the Times of India. However, a CSK official revealed that Dhoni has not informed anyone in the camp about his decision and will take a couple of months before taking the final call.

“Dhoni has not told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call,” the report quoted a source as saying. “He did not feel any discomfort in his running between the wickets and that is a plus.”

The “Impact Player” rule which received a lot of criticism in the ongoing season of the lucrative tournament will play a huge role in Dhoni”s retirement call. As if the rule is persisted with, then it will allow Dhoni to take a specific role for the franchise in the batting order.

“We will wait for Dhoni”s communication. He always has the best interests of the team in mind, let”s see what happens,” the CSK official concluded.

Dhoni featured in 14 matches of the IPL 2024, where he accumulated 161 runs at an average of 53.67, at a phenomenal strike rate of over 220.
