Pakistan’s qualification into the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 remains under threat after a state of emergency was declared in Fort Lauderdale due to the life-threatening flash floods in Florida. The situation is so tense in Florida that hundreds of flights bound for and from South Florida were grounded by local authorities.
The Sri Lanka cricket team has been left stranded in the city. Notably, Fort Lauderdale is one of the main venues of the T20 World Cup 2024, where three important games including India, Pakistan, and the USA will be hosted.
The first game at the venue between Sri Lanka and Nepal was called off due to rain.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the rainfall and flooding has affected and may continue to impact the operational capability of critical infrastructure, including major interstates, state and county roadways, airports, schools, and other critical infrastructure throughout these counties,” Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, said in the declaration.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis declared a state of emergency in the city.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan team was supposed to fly out of the venue to the West Indies on Friday. But the team will stay back in the US due to enforced state of emergency. The team will fly from Fort Lauderdale on Friday.
