Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allocated a massive fund for the renovation of the three venues allocated for the Champions Trophy 2025.
The hosts had proposed three venues — Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium — for the marquee event slated to run from February 19 to March 9.
As per a report in Geo News, the hosts have allocated INR 12.80 billion for the renovation. The nod was given by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during his visit to the BDP Pattern’s London office where he met Chris Harding and other senior officials to discuss about the renovation of the stadiums. Notably, the organisation based in the United Kingdom, has constructed over 200 stadiums across the world.
Pakistan fast bowling legend Wasim Akram was questioned about the stadiums, earlier last year, by a fan: “We have seen stadiums like Dharamsala and Queenstown (New Zealand) why is the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not investing in the infrastructure of stadiums in the northern areas?”
To which, he pointed out, saying: “We can’t even maintain three stadiums, (Baki kaha naya bana lenge) how could we make a new one?
“(Gaddafi ki chhat dekhi hai) Have you seen the roof of the Gaddafi Stadium that they were showing with the drone? We can’t even control the three we have. We can only dream of making a new one. We have enough area to make a new stadium, though. Abbottabad is a very beautiful ground,” Akram would add.
