Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 12, made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar on Friday at a surprising age. He became one of the youngest Indians to make a first-class debut at the age of 12 years and 284 days, brining him under the scanner for age fraud. The left-arm spinner is currently featuring in his debut Ranji Trophy match against Shams Mulani”s Mumbai at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna.
Suryavanshi turns out to be 14 by his admission. In an interview, the youngster said that he will turn 14 in November 2023. However, his records with the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) and his birth certificate suggest that he is 12 years old. An official verdict on his age is still to be confirmed by the Indian Cricket Board. However, some well-known journalists in the media circuit have put this matter to light through their tweets on social media.
In an interview in April last year, Vaibhav had said that he'll turn 14 in September 2023.
