Ranji Trophy Final: Shreyas Iyer Slams Half-Century After Central Contract Snub

Shreyas Iyer slammed a half-century in the Ranji Trophy final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Mumbai batter looked to regain his mojo in the second innings after scoring only seven runs in the first innings. He had looked out of touch in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu, managing to score only seven runs.

It was a well-composed knock as Iyer reached the milestone in 62 deliveries, helping Mumbai to further strengthen their position in the prestigious final. It was the 30th first-class half-century for Iyer and a much-needed one under the circumstances. He looked comfortable at lunch on Day 3 as he was unbeaten at 68 runs off 75 deliveries which included eight boundaries and two hits over the fence.

Incidentally, Iyer had immediately joined the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy after being dropped from the India squad during the Test series vs England. His exclusion from the squad and subsequent central contract snub came after his poor run in the first two Tests vs England. The Mumbai batter had managed to rake up the scores of 13, 35, 29, and 27 in the two Tests.
