Indian cricket icon Virender Sehwag and his wife, Aarti Ahlawat, are reportedly heading for divorce after 20 years of marriage. The couple, who wed in 2004, are said to have been living separately for several months, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Speculations gained traction when the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram, with no official statement made yet.
Sehwag, known for his explosive batting and numerous cricketing milestones, shares two sons, Aryavir (born 2007) and Vedant (born 2010), with Aarti. Fans were quick to notice the absence of Aarti from Sehwag’s Diwali photos, which featured only his sons and mother. Similarly, a recent Instagram post documenting his visit to the Vishwa Nagayakshi Temple in Kerala made no mention of his wife, further fuelling rumours of their strained relationship.
Aarti Ahlawat, a New Delhi native, has maintained a low public profile. She completed her education at Lady Irwin Secondary School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and pursued a diploma in Computer Science at Maitreyi College, Delhi University.
The couple’s love story began in the early 2000s and culminated in a grand wedding hosted by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Over the years, they were seen as a solid pair, balancing Sehwag’s cricketing commitments with family life. However, recent reports suggest that their relationship has been under strain for some time.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2015, Sehwag has taken on various roles, including serving on the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel of the National Anti-Doping Agency. While his professional achievements remain celebrated, his personal life is now under public scrutiny.
Neither Sehwag nor Aarti has issued a formal comment on the matter.
