The New Zealand international cricketer Rachin Ravindra recently visited his grandmother in Karnataka’s Bengaluru and sought blessings. A video surfaced online shows the grandmother engaged in a traditional prayer and ritual to ward off evil spirits from Mr Ravindra is quite adorable.
The Kiwi international all-rounder is currently on his tour to India as part of the ongoing 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup. The 23-year-old Indian origin was born in Wellington and made his international debut for the New Zealand cricket team in September 2021. His stunning century at the World Cup opening match earned him admirers across the globe.
Mr Ravindra visited his grandparents and a glimpse of it is now out – a heartwarming footage. The clip provides a rare look of the cricketer, more into his private circle. The serene setting of the room is quite touching and his rootedness to his family is clearly visible.
In the video which went viral, Mr Ravindra’s old grandmother is seen praying some traditional chants to ward off evil. The Kiwi squad member is patiently sitting on a sofa and let the mother to finish her prayers, an age-old Indian tradition. Born to Indian parents in Wellington, Mr Ravindra has his family roots in Bengaluru.

He began playing cricket at the age of five. His father is said a player in club-level cricket in Bengaluru before settling in New Zealand in 1997. Interestingly, his name also is a portmanteau of the first names of the iconic Indian cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar – Rachin.
Mr Ravindra began his cricket journey after being influenced by Sachin Tendulkar. After securing an unbeaten century in this years World Cup opening match against the defending champions, he opened up about his admiration for the legend player Sachin Tendulkar. “I think the way he batted and his technique was beautiful to watch”, he said in a press meet. He was super-happy at that moment for scoring a century from the Indian soil, as he preserves strong connections to his home land.
While, Ravindra’s remarkable achievement places him along the elite group of players who have scored century in their World Cup debut and he also became the third youngest player to reach to this remarkable achievement. Ravindra reached the century milestone in just 81 deliveries.
