India executed a power packed match against Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2023. India mercilessly executed Pakistan for seven wickets on Saturday night in Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad.
Leading from front, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma dazzled with a momentous 86 runs off 63 balls. Regardless of the political tensions between both countries, in a heartfelt moment, Babar Azam and Virat Kohli were seen interacting together after the match. Babar Azam was gifted with jersey signed by Kohli, it was a fan boy moment for the Pakistan Captain. Babar received the jersey with a warm smile leaving behind the sorrow of loss.
But this gesture has led to the wake of significant controversy on social media platforms. Many Pakistan fans felt that this act could have been done in the dressing room, given the heavy margin of defeat. And this was rather agreed upon by former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram. He said that today was not the day for Babar Azam to do it on the ground, especially after his side’s humiliating defeat.
“That’s what I exactly said when I saw the picture. Today was not the day to do this. If you want to do it – if your uncle’s son has asked you to get Kohli’s shirt – then do it after the game in the dressing room,” Akram said on a TV show.
It is to recalled that Babar Azam had supported Virat Kohli when he was going through a rough patch in his career. “This too shall pass. Stay Strong” Babar Azam had said on X in July 2022.
Following a tough loss, Pakistan will aim to have strong comeback in their next match against Australia which is scheduled to be held on October 20. While India has secured its top position in the point table with three consecutive wins with a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than New Zealand.
