BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI World Cup team along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya as his deputy for the much-awaited tournament.
K L Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have returned to the team after an injury lay-off had made it into the team, while wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was left out.
Middle-order batter Tilak Varma and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna are the other two who have missed spot in 15 membered squad.
India’s core team includes- Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.
Bumrah along with Muhammad Siraj and Muhammad Shami will lead the pace attack , Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur are the fast-bowling all rounders of the team. Kuldeep Yadav is the frontline wristspinner, with Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja the left-arm spin-bowling allrounders. There are no specialist off-spinner in the team.
The deadline to submit the World Cup squad to the ICC is September 5, but the team can make changes till September 28 without the approval from the ICC.
India opens its World Cup campaign in Chennai against Australia on October 8.
