AI-Infused iOS 18 Could Be Apple’s Biggest Update In Years

Edited by Akhil Thomas

Apple’s iOS 18, the most anticipated software update, is expected to be unveiled in early June 2024 during Apple‘s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24). Apple is reportedly considering the upcoming iOS 18 version as its most ambitious update in years for iPhone users. The report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that iOS 18 is ‘even more critical than usual.’

According to Mark Gurman, the new operating system update will bring major upgrades over iOS 17. The report also reveals that the much-awaited iPhone 16, which is expected to be unveiled next year, will not be offering extensive hardware upgrades. This indicates that Apple is planning to sell its next generation of smartphones by promoting the iOS 18 update. Recently, Bloomberg reported that Apple has paused the development of new features for its next operating systems, including iOS 18 and macOS 15, in order to focus on improving performance and fixing bugs. Mark Gurman reported that with this pause, Apple engineers could spend more time exclusively on rooting out glitches. However, this pause is believed to have no major impact on the release schedule of the next operating system.

Apple’s senior management has described its upcoming operating systems as “ambitious and compelling,” reported Bloomberg. Apart from security and performance improvements, iOS 18 will also be equipped with new features and designs. Mark Gurman also claimed that Apple may include generative AI in iOS 18. The Cupertino giant is making this move to compete with Google and OpenAI in the generative AI field. Earlier, there were also reports that Apple is working on certain AI-related projects. These major projects are led by Apple’s senior vice presidents, John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi. While John Giannandrea is working on a new AI system, including a new and improved Siri, Craig Federighi is putting efforts into the development of a new AI-infused iOS.
