Apple, the Cupertino-based tech company, is finally working on unlocking the full potential of AI. While other tech companies made significant announcements regarding generative artificial intelligence (AI), Apple remained silent about their developments in this sector. During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple announced that iOS 17 will have an improved autocorrect feature powered by an AI model.
Apple has posted multiple job opportunities to generative AI on its career page. This strongly indicates that Apple is making efforts to improve its generative AI capabilities. In one of the job postings, Apple mentioned that they are “working on a generative AI-based developer experience platform for internal use.” Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Apple is investing $1 billion annually to integrate generative AI throughout its various products. The company is reportedly planning to roll out generative AI features in its iOS in the near future. Apple has to make a lot of efforts in developing its AI capabilities as they have to compete with OpenAI and Google.
Macrumors reported that Apple has been testing “Apple GPT” for the past several months. “Apple GPT” is expected to compete with OpenAI”s ChatGPT. According to Bloomberg, this major project is Apple’s own large language model (LLM), led by three senior vice presidents: John Giannandrea, Craig Federighi, and Eddy Cue. The report from Macrumors also suggested that the tech giant has an internal chatbot that some engineers have been referring to as “Apple GPT”. This chatbot is used for product prototyping, and it will answer questions to the data that was used to train it.
