
CHATGPT Server Down: OpenAI’s AI Chatbot Experiences Global Outage
California, US: ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, experienced a widespread outage today, with numerous users reporting that the service was unresponsive on both the mobile app and web platforms. The issue reportedly began around 12 pm IST and peaked at approximately 3:15 PM IST, according to data from Downdetector.
Several users across the world experienced disruptions, with over 1,000 complaints reported in the UK and nearly 500 in the US. Most users encountered error messages such as “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.” Others received a vague notification that read, “Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong.”

Frustrated users took to social media to confirm whether the issue was widespread. One user posted on X (formerly Twitter), “ChatGPT, my work buddy, is down again.” Another commented, “Apparently ChatGPT is down globally. I thought my internet was glitching.”
OpenAI acknowledged the issue and confirmed that it is under investigation. According to the company’s official service status page, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are investigating.”
According to The Economic Times, such outages can be caused by a variety of factors, including failed software updates or more serious issues like cyberattacks.
