The apps that carry trivial content and limited functionality could be taken away from the Play Store.

The tech giant Google is reportedly lifting its minimum requirement policy as the quality of Android apps will be evaluated to remove unwanted apps from the Play Store, according to the latest policy update of the company. The apps that carry trivial content and limited functionality could be taken away from the Play Store. Google stated that those apps are not productive and do nothing creative at all. The apps will not be placed or permitted to be on the list of Play Store apps from August 31 2024.

As per the reports, the company said that it is set to identify the additional requirements to ensure the standard of Play Store apps and if they meet the expectations. Google adheres to raising standards for the Play catalogue giving importance to user engagements ensuring quality content and productive functionality.

This also includes forbidding broken apps, apps with abnormal functionality and further glitch. This is although applicable to some major apps, including the Sono app, which is regularly criticized for broken functionality. It was stated that around 2.28 million apps were blocked from its Play Store service just in 2023 detecting potential risks and violating app policies. The company reportedly said that it had already banned around  333,000 “bad” Google Play accounts in the same year for its malware and repeated unlawful actions.

This new ‘app purge’ will not be effective until August 31st, as the company gives time to the developers to fix the issues. If any app has been removed before the date will be because it has violated any other Google policies.
