Microsoft has announced that they have added new vernacular features to Outlook Lite. As part of enabling Indian users to communicate effectively, the tech giant has included support for Indian vernacular languages and support for SMS in the Outlook Lite platform. Outlook Lite brings the main features of Microsoft Outlook in a smaller-sized app with better performance for lightweight devices on any network.
Outlook Lite currently supports five Indian languages. This includes Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati. Microsoft said in a statement that additional languages and dialects will be included in the platform in the future to continue catering to the linguistic diversity of India. The company also said that with features such as voice typing, translation, and transliteration, users will be able to compose and read emails in their preferred regional language in Outlook Lite.
Notably, Outlook Lite also supports SMS messaging. Microsoft said that it simplifies how users consume transactional and promotional information as it provides a unified and smart inbox that organizes messages by categories, such as promotions, personal, and transactions. With this, Outlook Lite users can switch between various categories easily and will be able to see relevant messages in one place.
Rajiv Kumar, the managing director of Microsoft India Development Centre, said that with the new features, Outlook Lite redefines communication accessibility and delivers users with a more convenient and personalized experience. “This launch reaffirms our commitment to enabling every person to achieve more, simplifying their daily interactions while enabling greater productivity and connectivity,” added Rajiv Kumar in the statement. Microsoft also said that Outlook Lite will soon support language translation for SMS. With this, users can read messages in their preferred language. Users will also be able to switch between languages with a single tap.
