The tech giant Apple announced a new feature for its Apple Watch in India that will allow parents to connect with children receiving phone calls, FaceTime and text messages directly via smartwatch sans an iPhone. This new feature is called ‘Family Setup’ which was already there on WatchOS during the pandemic but wasn’t available in India. The company is now set to roll out this feature in India as it has been on the waiting list of many.
This can be marked as a significant innovation in pondering child safety among Indian families. This new feature comes with easy calling, and activity monitoring even if the kids don’t have an iPhone which helps parents to find an alternative to connect with their kids without giving them mobile phones. Parents will get to know about their kids’ location by encrypting data securely within the device.
They can also approve all contacts to avoid further confusion that may enable children to use these communication features safely. Apart from that the whole family can use the advantage along with the important health features like Siri, Alarms and Emergency SOS as well as other safety features.

To avail of this feature, kids might purchase their phone number via different cellular plans creating their Apple ID in the watch. This is currently available in India through Jio which is a wireless service plan. There is a calendar feature on the Apple Watch that may aid children to schedule family events and functions and to manage tasks giving inputs to the reminders. Additionally, kids can access photo albums by syncing them from their parent’s iPhones. Children can also download other apps on their watch directly checking the availability of downloads under supervision.
