Gurgaon Doctor Deactivates X Account After Claims Of Muslim Men Stole His Apple Watch Debunked By CISF

Dr Tushar Mehta, a Gurgaon-based doctor, deactivated his X ccount after his allegations of theft were refuted by the CISF.

Gurgaon, Haryana: Dr Tushar Mehta, a Gurgaon-based doctor, deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account after his allegations of theft at Delhi Airport Terminal 3 were refuted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

In a now-deleted post, Dr Mehta claimed that two Muslim men, identified as Shoaib and Sagib, were involved in the theft of his Apple Watch during the security check. He recounted confronting one of the individuals near a watch store and forcibly retrieving his watch from the suspect’s pocket.

He also alleged that a Helios store employee, Shoaib, behaved suspiciously and attempted to defend the accused. The post quickly gained traction on social media, particularly among right-wing circles, sparking widespread communal backlash.

However, both the CISF and Delhi Airport authorities conducted an investigation, including a review of CCTV footage, and dismissed Dr Mehta’s claims. The CISF issued a statement saying: “After security check, you were seen wearing your watch and heading to the boarding gate without any interaction with CISF personnel. Posting such unsubstantiated messages creates unnecessary apprehension among passengers and should be avoided.”

Delhi Airport also clarified in its statement that the allegations were “unsubstantiated” and confirmed no suspicious activity occurred during Dr Mehta’s travel on Air India flight AI-801 on 25 January.

The incident attracted criticism from several quarters, with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi condemning the communal tone of the doctor’s post. She stated, “A doctor so filled with hate for Muslims cooked up an airport story of his iWatch being stolen, implying CISF involvement too. CCTV footage exposed his lie. In their hate, they have even started accusing India’s men in uniform. Their shamelessness knows no bounds.”

Following the backlash and debunking of his claims, Dr Mehta deleted his original post and deactivated his account.
