The Delhi Airport has issued an advisory warning passengers that flight operations may be disrupted and suggested the passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.

Thick Fog Envelops National Capital, Flights Delayed

New Delhi: A thick layer of fog enveloped Delhi and parts of National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday morning reducing the visibility to zero in roads and highways. The situation has prompted the delay of more than 150 flights and about 26 trains. No reports of traffic disruptions due to the fog have been noted so far.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Airport has issued an advisory warning passengers that flight operations may be disrupted and suggested the passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.

“Due to dense Fog, there has been impact on Flight departures, however, flights which are CAT III compliant are able to land and depart from Delhi Airport. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the advisory read.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a moderate to very dense fog warning for many parts of North India, including Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

The air quality index in the Delhi dropped down in the “severe category”. As per Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI was recorded at 409 at 6 am on Friday morning. Yesterday, the AQI of the city stood at 357.

Since the temperature started to dip, several night shelters in different parts of Delhi were seen with all its beds occupied. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has also placed 235 pagoda tents in order to provide shelter to homeless people. Night shelters have been also set up in several areas including AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin flyover, the Hindu reports.
