Aligarh Muslim University Gets Bomb Threat; Investigation Launched

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Thursday received a bomb threat demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh via email. The bomb threat message has prompted swift action from the university authorities, which conducted a thorough search across the campus.

As the university authorities informed the police about the threat, the cops deployed a bomb disposal unit, dog squad, and cyber teams and launched an investigation to track the email’s origin.

Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey said that they received alert from the university authorities, and then the bomb disposal unit was immediately deployed. “All isolated spots on the campus were thoroughly searched by the police. The cyber teams are also investigating the origin of the email,” Business Standard quoted the police officer.

As per a report by ANI, no suspicious objects have been found so far in the search operation which focused on sweeping key areas of the campus. Responding to the development, Mohd Wasim Ali, AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali assured that the authorities are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.  The authorities have also requested the students and faculty to be watchful and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.

Notably, on Wednesday, two educational institutions in Delhi had received similar threats via email – one the Lady Shree Ram College while the other was the Tagore International School, East of Kailash, according to Delhi Fire officials.
