Microsoft-backed OpenAI unveiled the new AI model, named GPT-4 Turbo. The latest AI model is more powerful, cheaper, and supports a 128K context window. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made this significant announcement during the company”s first developer conference on November 6.
According to OpenAI, GPT-4 Turbo is more capable and has knowledge of world events up to April 2023. Earlier, users could only ask the chatbot about events that happened before September 2021. The AI model is also equipped with a 128k context window, so it can fit the equivalent of more than 300 pages of text in a single prompt. In addition to GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI also unveiled an updated version of GPT-3.5 Turbo that supports a 16K context window by default.

During the developer conference, OpenAI also announced that they are offering users the chance to create their own version of the chatbot called GPTs. “GPTs are a new way for anyone to create a tailored version of ChatGPT to be more helpful in their daily life,” OpenAI said in its statement. “Anyone can easily build their own GPT—no coding is required. You can make them for yourself, just for your company’s internal use, or for everyone,” added the company.
OpenAI also mentioned that they will launch the GPT Store soon, which will feature creations by verified builders. At the same time, CEO Sam Altman also revealed that ChatGPT has achieved 100 million weekly active users. Sam Altman also added that more than 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies are building on OpenAI”s products. OpenAI made these major announcements as they are facing tough competition from Meta, Google, and X.
