Sam Altman’s Baby Sleeps in AI-Powered Crib Designed By Bengaluru Entrepreneur Radhika Patil
On February 23, 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his partner Oliver Mulherin welcomed their first child, a baby boy who arrived earlier than expected and was recovering in the NICU.
Amid this life-changing moment, Altman took a moment to spotlight one particular product that stood out during the early days of parenthood: a smart crib developed by a Bengaluru-born founder.
In a recent post on social media, Altman praised Cradlewise, an AI-driven crib created by Radhika Patil, calling it a rare baby product that’s “genuinely useful.”
Among the many gadgets and essentials, the couple tried, the crib, he said, truly helped in soothing their newborn during the initial, often unpredictable days.
We bought a lot of silly baby things that we haven’t needed.
But I recommend a cradlewise crib and a lot more burp rags than you think you could need

The startup behind the innovation, Cradlewise, was co-founded in 2016 by Radhika and her husband Bharath Patil, born from their own experience, piloting the challenges of newborn sleep.
The crib is no ordinary bassinet: it uses sensors and AI technology to detect when a baby is about to wake and responds with gentle rocking, music, and monitoring to encourage the child to fall back asleep, often without parents having to intervene.

Unlike traditional cribs, Cradlewise learns each baby’s unique sleep pattern over time, adjusting its response to deliver personalised care.
Integrated with a baby monitor and music system, it offers a thoughtful mix of science, empathy, and design, aimed at easing the mental load of new parents, especially during those unpredictable first few months.
The crib’s global success is also a personal milestone for Radhika Patil, who hails from Bengaluru and has a background in electronic design.
A former employee of Qualcomm and Marvell Semiconductor, she later pursued advanced studies at the Indian Institute of Science and Stanford University and is now settled in the US.
Following Sam Altman’s public appreciation, Radhika Patil responded with a heartfelt message of gratitude. Tagging the tech leader on X, she wrote: “Thanks for loving us, @sama. The AI god’s trust in the smarts of @cradlewise means a lot to us. Wishing you all more,”

Photos of their seaside wedding went viral in January 2024, confirming the news. Since then, the couple has kept a low profile, with one notable exception: attending the 2023 US State Dinner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The couple was expecting their first child in March 2025. However, their little one had other plans and arrived earlier than expected.
