"Beating Us, Not Allowing To Vote": Muslims Voters Say On Camera; Akhilesh Wants Action

UP bypolls Edited by

Allegations of voter obstruction arose during UP by-polls. Videos surfaced where many Muslim voters were stopped by police personnel. Reports emerged from Ibrahimpur, Meerapur, Kanpur Nagar, and Ambedkarnagar.

The Samajwadi Party alleged that the police were targeting certain communities (Muslims, Yadavs).

The party called for suspension of police officials checking voter cards and Aadhaar IDs unlawfully.

They alleged that the police had placed barriers on the way to polling stations to stop Muslim voters.

SP leader Akhilesh Yadav called for strict action by the ECI against the police authorities.

The EC ordered suspension of several officers including those in the Siasamau in Kanpur.

In response, BJP’s Keshav Maurya called the allegations “baseless,” accusing the SP of deploying “external unruly elements.”
