New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who won the recent Wayanad byelection took oath as a Lok Sabha MP on Thursday, November 28. She wore a tradition Kerala Kasavu saree. She took the oath in Hindi while holding a copy of the Constitution in hand. At present, three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family—Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka are in Parliament.
In the maiden electoral contest, she won the Wayanad seat by a margin of over 4 lakh votes. She has surpassed the vote margin of Rahul Gandhi, who earlier held the seat. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi has won the seat by the margin of 3.65 lakh votes.

Following her victory, she said: “I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me. I will make sure that over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory and the person you chose to represent you understands your hopes and dreams and fights for you as one of your own. I look forward to being your voice in Parliament!”
Rahul Gandhi, who won from both Raebareli and Wayanad, chose to retain the former paving the way for Priyanka’s contest from the seat. In the bypolls, Priyanka competed against BJP’s Navya Haridas, and CPI(M) veteran Sathyan Mokeri.

Apart from Priyanka Gandhi, Congress leader Ravindra Chavan who won the Nanded byelection also took oath on Thursday. The winter session of the Parliament began on November 25 and entered third day.
