The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, ruled that there was no systemic breach in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, beyond isolated incidents in Hazaribagh and Patna, dismissing the need for a retest.

However, the court criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its “flip-flops” on key issues, such as the safety of question paper strongrooms and the awarding of compensatory marks.

The justices emphasized that the NTA must rectify these errors and avoid similar mistakes in the future, directing the Union of India to ensure these issues are fully resolved this year to maintain exam integrity.

The court added that the committee constituted by the Centre also consider framing standard operating procedure (SOP) for technological advancements to identify the weaknesses in the exam system, CCTV camera monitoring of examination centres, and processes for enhanced identity checks
