Actor Tovino Thomas today appealed to the general public to participate en masse in the relief and rehabilitation efforts to support those affected by the Wayanad landslides. The 2018 actor urged the public to donate as much as they can, either to the Chief Minister’s relief fund or to the groups involved in the relief and rehabilitation work in the area.

Landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in the Meppadi Panchayat of Wayanad have moved the entire humanity, with the death toll surpassing 334. Officials warn the number may rise as more than 280 people remain missing. Search operations, temporarily halted on Thursday evening, resumed Friday morning and still going on in the night.

After four days of efforts in Chooralmala, rescuers found four family members alive today but injured in their home at Padavettikunnu, located three kilometers away. This incident has given hope to the rescuers to scout for life even after four days passed since the landslides that changed the landscape of the region.

Earlier, actors from Malayalam film fraternity and outside, including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suriya, Karthik, Jyotika, Dulquer Salmaan among others, have announced their contributions to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Earlier in the day, after visiting the epicenter of the calamity, Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also appealed for larger public engagement in the rescue and relief works as he was announcing that his party will build 100 houses in the area.
