As the death toll from the massive landslides that struck Kerala’s Wayanad in the early hours of July 30 reached over 340, a video from the catastrophe-hit region showed the Indian army risking adverse circumstances to save three people trapped under the Soojipara waterfalls.

Sujipara Waterfall is a three-tiered falls in Vellarimala, which is not far from the tragedy-hit region. Surrounded by forests, there were reports that some tribal people took refuge in the area during the intense rainfall. They had been stranded in the region as their surroundings were swollen by the overflowing water during the downpours.

As more than 200 people are still missing, the search operation is progressing on the fifth day, with dead bodies being recovered and stranded being rescued. Chief Minister pinarayi vijayan today said that the rescued operation has entered the final stage, giving hopes the missing people can be found soon.
