Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, after visiting the calamity areas of Wayanad, said the immediate focus is on rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. He also added that the Congress family is committed to building over 100 houses here.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that all possible assistance is provided to our brothers and sisters in this time of need,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi, also the current Wayanad MP, reached Wayanad yesterday along with senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and met with the landslides-affected locals and visited relief camps. Today morning, Mr Gandhi also had a meeting with the Congress leadership of Kerala to assess the rescue and rehabilitation works.
Landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Kerala’s Wayanad have devastated the entire nation, with the death toll surpassing 330. Officials warn the number may rise as 295 people remain missing. Search operations, temporarily halted on Thursday evening, resumed Friday morning.
After four days of efforts in Chooralmala, rescuers found four family members alive today but injured in their home at Padavettikunnu, located three kilometers away.
