31 Babies And 6 Health Workers Evacuated From Al Shifa Hospital

Director-General of World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, informed about attempt made by United Nations and Palestine Red Crescent Society in transferring the patients and health workers at the Al Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip “under extremely intense and high-risk security conditions”.

Taking to X (formerly twitter), the WHO Director-General said that 31 very sick babies, 6 health workers and 10 staff family members were evacuated. The babies were taken to Al-Helal Al-Emairati Maternity Hospital, from where the babies are receiving urgent care In the neonatal intensive care unit.

 

He informed about further missions for evacuating the remaining patients and health workers who are trapped inside as the occupation force has invaded the hospital. Mr. Ghebreyesus said the evacuation mission is planned under “pending guarantees of safe passage by parties to the conflict”.

WHO appreciated the “extraordinary bravery and service of the health workers in Gaza, who continue to serve under the most dire and difficult circumstances’.
