
Abu Dhabi Hits 50.4°C, UAE’s Highest May Temperature Since 2003
UAE recorded the highest temperature for the month of May on Friday, as it hit 50.4 degrees Celsius. The country’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has confirmed that this had been the highest recorded temperature since it began recording in 2003.
The previously recorded highest temperature for May was 50.2 degrees Celsius. “The highest temperature recorded over the country today is 50.4°C (122.7 Fahrenheit) in Al Shawamekh (Abu Dhabi) at 14:30 UAE Local Time,” it said in a post on X.

“This is the highest temperature we’ve ever recorded (for May) since we started keeping records in 2003,” the NCM told AFP.

The temperature hit 48°C in Mezaira and Sweihan, and peaked at 46°C in Abu Dhabi. In Dubai, it reached 44°C.
The NCM had predicted that the temperature would reach 49 degrees Celsius in Al Ain on Saturday and 48 degrees Celsius in Sweihan. Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai will experience highs of 47 degrees Celsius. While on Sunday, temperatures in Abu Dhabi are forecast to hit 47°C, with Dubai enjoying an ever-so-slightly cooler 44°C. Average daily temperature highs for the month stood at 42.6°C.
The country, which is famous for its hot summers, had been recording higher temperatures than usual even before the season begins.

As a precautionary measure, the NCM on Friday had issued instructions to stay safe in the heat, advising residents to stay out of the heat, avoid dehydration, wear summer-friendly clothing, and use sunscreen while going out in the sun.
