Another US strike killed a senior military commander of the Hashed al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilisation Forces group among some others on Thursday in Baghdad Palestine Street. The Iraq government has accused the US-led international coalition of carrying out drone strikes targeting Iran-aligned paramilitary groups. Routers reported that four other members of the popular mobilization force were also killed in the drone strike.

Calling the attack “dangerous escalation and aggression,” Iraq Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s office said in a statement: “The Iraqi armed forces hold the forces of the international coalition responsible for this attack.”

Condemning the US attack, Iraq’s foreign ministry called it a “blatant aggression” on an Iraqi security facility. In a statement issued by the foreign ministry, it further said: “Iraq reserves its right to take a firm stance and take all measures that deter anyone who tries to harm its land and security forces.”

There is no immediate response from the US officials regarding the attack. The video of the fire rising from Baghdad’s strike area has been shared on social media.

After the latest Israel-Palestine war broke out, there has been several attacks on US military bases in Iraq and the US is conducting several airstrikes in many areas of Iraq and Syria as a response.

However, the latest strike comes two days after Saleh al-Arouri, a deputy leader of Hamas and an ally of Iran, was killed in a drone strike in Beirut by the US. The latest rounds of US strikes raise concerns over the destabilisation of the region. Iran had blamed the United States for the twin blast in Iran Yesterday, killing more than 100 people.
