Hefty Fines Introduced In Abu Dhabi For Storing Items On Balconies

The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has issued a new rule regulating the storage of items on rooftop balconies. This regulation introduced in the emirates was taken to avoid any objects or materials on rooftops which would compromise the visual appeal of buildings or pose risks to public health.

The new rule comes under Law No. 2 of 2012, which focuses on preserving general appearance, public health, and order. The violators are charged with hefty fines by the authorities. For the first violation, the authorities charge them with Dhs 500, which is followed by a Dhs 1,000 penalty for the second-time violation.

The department has called on the residents and property owners to adhere to the regulations and maintain proper use of outdoor spaces, particularly in residential and commercial buildings. Inspections will be carried out to monitor the compliance of the rules.

In the recent efforts of the authorities to look after the appeal of the Emirate, Abu Dhabi has introduced several types of penalties to the individuals who may partake in acts that disrupt the overall appearance or pose a health risk.

Moreover, recently the authorities had announced fines of up to Dhs 4,000 for unlicensed commercial building façade modifications. Meanwhile, those leaving filthy and abandoned vehicles in public and leaving a vehicle’s body or frame outside are fined up to Dhs 4,000.

Apart from this, a new regulation has also been implemented restricting the property owners from fencing, enclosing, or covering their properties in a way that distorts the public appearance. The authorities could fine up to Dhs 10,000.

The Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has also revealed revised penalties applicable for littering and cigarette butt disposal in the Emirate. The authority had announced the fines that could be imposed on the type of violation and its frequency.
