Israel Arrests Palestinian Activist Ahed Tamimi During An Overnight Ride

Ahed Tamimi, a 22 year old Palestinian activist was arrested for “inciting terrorism”. The Israeli force announced the arrest on Monday after another raids and fighting in the occupied West Bank. Ever since the beginning of the war on October 7th, over night raids and arrest has become frequent.

An Israeli army spokesperson said Ahed Tamimi “was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence and terrorist activities…Tamimi was transferred to Israeli security forces for further questioning”, as quoted by Al Jazeera.

The activist’s mother Nariman Tamimi told Anadolu news agency the occupation force has confiscated mobile phones of the family members after a thorough search. Ms. Tamimi’s father Bassim Tamimi was detained during one such raid last week. Information about his whereabouts are not known yet, says report.

According to Israeli media. Ms. Tamimi was apprehended for the post of murder of an Israeli settler in her Instagram. The security force also shared the alleged post with AFP. But the activist’s mother said the alleged post was not her daughter’s.

She said, “there are dozen’s of pages (online) pages in Ahed’s name with her photo, with which she has no connection”. The Israeli force “celebrated” Ms. Tamimi’s arrest by publishing her picture and asking “where is her smile now?” on Facebook, says report.

Ms. Tamimi and her family members are well known activists. Her father, Bassim Tamimi has been detained several times before and has spent at least four years in Israeli prison.

She became known to the world when a video of her standing against the occupation force became viral. The video showed the Ms. Tamimi confronting the Israeli soldiers when they came to her home to arrest her brother. Ms. Tamimi is considered as an icon of Palestinian resistance. She spent eight months in Israeli prison after she was detained for another confrontation against Israeli soldiers.

Since October 7, the occupation has been conducting over night raids and arrest in the occupied West bank and East Jerusalem. Report says, so far Israel has arrested around 1,470 Palestinians during the overnight raids and most of them were arrested under the law and military order that allow arrest without charge or trial.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza has reached 10,000 and the number of injured has crossed 25,000. Apart from the civilians, several journalists, health care workers and UN staffs were also killed in the Israeli bombing on Gaza since October 7th.
