The deadly conflict between Israel and Palestine is going on full scale on the third day since Hamas, a militant group in Palestine, launched an “unprecedented” attack on the southern part of Israel. The United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees said nearly 74,000 Palestinians took shelter in 64 schools in Gaza strips which started working since Saturday.
Gaza”s Health Ministry reported that nearly 436 people lost their lives. The list included 91 children and 61 women. Over 2,271 Palestinians were injured, including 244 children and 151 women. So far, nearly 120,000 people have been displaced from Palestine as the war escalates. The UN says the count is 123,538, and most of the people are displaced out of fear and protection concerns.
Israel said they had hit more than 500 “targeted” sites in Gaza. Al Jazeera says people of Gaza is taking refuge in United Nations camp and the number of such refugees has reached 100,000 as their homes and lands are completely plummeted to an inhabitable state. A correspondent of Al Jazeera reported that the individuals in the effected areas of Gaza emits a strong odour of white phosphorous. Israel Defence Forces In Gaza earlier used this mode of weapon. It is pertinent to note International Humanitarian Law prohibits the usage of such weapons.
The main area of battle is three. The Hamas and Israel confront each other in the areas of Kibbutz in Karmia, Ashkelon, and Sderot. Israeli military claims that it has deployed 100,000 troops near Gaza. Hamas claims that the group have over hundred Israelis under their captive in Gaza.
Even though United Nation Security Council has met “behind the closed doors” for about 90 minutes to draw a joint statement on the rapidly escalating war between Israel and Palestine, the attempt was met with a blatant failure. With the world clearly divided through their stance on Israel – Palestine escalation, with major super powers rooting for Israel and slamming Hamas as “terrorists” and “strongly condemns” the group”s attack against “innocent civilians” of Israel, “unanimity” in the case seems a hard task to achieve.
Israel says that Hamas has just opened the “floodgates of hell” on Gaza with its attack and said that Hamas”s claim about defending Al Aqsa mosque is not true as their attacks was “pre planned”.
Meanwhile, Palestinian ambassador, Husam Zomlot slammed BBC for their questions regarding the “condemn of the unprecedented attack” carried out by Hamas. He answered, “don”t equate between the occupied and occupier”. He also questioned why only the people of Palestine were forced to condemn itself and why the BBC had not called him to discuss the “issues” when Israel unleashed its attack on Palestinian people so far this year and killed more than 200 people. He also added that only through strict international law could peace be achieved and Israel should not be an exception to the law like it has been for decades now. Mr. Zomlot urged the world to stop drawing “symmetry” between what is happening in Palestine and Israel as nobody dared to raise questions towards Israel up on their doings in the occupied Palestine.
