'Israeli Deep State Is In Danger, Not Democracy', Netanyahu Hits Out At Opposition

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the Knesset and hits out the opposition in the house for compromising on the democractic values. Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that the “Israeli Deep State” is in danger reflects his ongoing narrative of being targeted by entrenched bureaucratic forces.

While speaking in the Knesset, Netanyahu said, “Over and over again you wave the scarecrow of democracy. You are recycling the ridiculous chewed- up slogans about the end of the democracy. Well, once and for all. Democracy is not in danger. The rule of the bureaucrats is in danger. The Deep State is in Danger. And why I say bureaucratic rule. I don’t mean the tens of thousands of public servants. The dedicated ones who do their job faithfully. I mean a small group of bureaucrats who fight to preserve in their hands.”

“The levers of power and authority in the country and you, members of the opposition, supports them. You back them because in your opinion there is no value for the will of the people who elected us to lead the country. As for you, listen carefully. For you the greatest danger to democracy is democracy itself. In your opinion, why should the people decide. Who the people are. The bureaucrats will decide” he said. “The people who elected us will decide instead of the elected government”, Netanyahu added.

The “Deep State” concept, often tied to conspiracy theories, has been used by Netanyahu to frame opposition to his leadership as an undemocratic plot, amid controversies like judicial reforms that critics argue threaten Israel’s democracy.

This message comes as Netanyahu faces domestic and international scrutiny, with groups like Human Rights Watch accusing Israel of apartheid, a charge he and his supporters reject as an attempt to delegitimize the state.
