Jordan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ayman Al Safadi on Saturday warned that the Israeli war on Gaza is causing humanitarian catastrophe, and said it represents collective punishment for more than two million Palestinians, and is pushing the entire region towards abyss.

He also warned against the war and violence will not help to achieve security and peace but will rather result in destruction, misery, and suffering. He said in the press statement that, by failing to stop the war by international community, they have failed to implement international law, to protect common human values and protect innocent civilians who are now forced to face the catastrophe of war.

Al Safadi stressed that the silence over the war and destruction that the people of Gaza are subjected to is silence over an aggression that strips Gazans of their humanity and their right to protection, and silence over Israel”s flagrant violations of international law.

He said that only a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which fulfills the full rights of the Palestinian people, will protect Palestine, Tel Aviv, and the entire region from the pitfalls of violence. The Israeli Occupation will not achieve security and peace unless Palestinians achieve security and freedom in their independent state with its capital in occupied East Jerusalem on the lines of June 4, 1967.

Al Safadi considered that the Israeli occupations prevention of humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, and its pressure on more than a million Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip to leave their homes, represents a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the law of war.

He affirmed the Jordan’s position against displacing of Palestinians from their homeland as this action will only lead to conflict. He also added that prevention of food, medicine, fuel and humanitarian aid to Gaza is a war crime according to the Fourth Geneva Convention, and a violation of international law that must be applied to everyone, according to one criteria, and not according to the identity of the victim and the location of the conflict.

Al Safadi calls for an immediate look into the matter as each day passing by without stopping the escalation will result in the price of more innocent lives. The war”s continuation also threatened its spread on other fronts, Safadi said adding “violence would breed more violence and destruction.”
