From 31 countries across the world, activists and professionals are organising a “Global March to Gaza” on June 15 towards the Rafah border, demanding immediate humanitarian access to Gaza. Participants will gather in Egypt on June 12 and march to the Gaza border crossing in northern Sinai, aiming to put pressure on international bodies to act amid the deepening humanitarian catastrophe.
The key objective is to demand the ‘stop genocide’ and to assure a ceasefire. As per the official website of the movement, they have assured that they only aim to negotiate the opening of the Rafah terminal with the Egyptian authorities, in collaboration with NGOs, diplomats, and humanitarian institutions.

The platform has also stated that this coalition has no affiliation with any political party or religious ideology and is purely humanitarian, bringing all the people from all backgrounds and beliefs under one banner.
As per the press release, a convoy would take them to El-Arish, a city in the Sinai near the Palestinian enclave’s border, from where these peaceful marchers will walk 50 kilometers to the Rafah border crossing.
“We hope for even more; the movement is growing day by day. Over a thousand people will travel to Cairo, including nearly 200 from Switzerland,” says Samuel Crettenand, Swiss delegate and spokesperson for the movement.
The journey is entirely self-funded by participants. Journalists, doctors, nurses, activists, lawyers, humanitarian workers, and delegates from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition will take part in the march.
However, several spokespersons had reported that when they had tried arranging meetings with the Egyptian authorities at the embassy level and sent official letters, they had not received any kind of formal response.
“Whether we receive a positive or negative response, we are all determined to act, because the level of violence has become unacceptable. We passed the so-called red line a long time ago. We owe this to the people of Gaza,” Dr. Hüseyin Durmaz, a physician from Turkey and a member of the International Health Initiative, said while speaking to Anadolu Agency.

The march aims to reach Rafah on June 15 and stay in tents until the 20th while organising various protests to ensure the world hears the calls, said Durmaz.
Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s grandson, has also endorsed the march. “We march for life. We march for dignity. We will march to Rafah with one goal: open the border.”
