Sana’a, Yemen: The Israeli Air Force attacked Yemen’s Sana’a airport on Wednesday, reportedly hitting the “last civilian commercial plane” that was operating from the alleged Houthi-controlled area. The attack marks the second Israeli strike on Sana’a airport this month. The earlier attacks destroyed other planes operating in the airport, as per multiple reports citing Houthi sources.

The plane which was hit by an Israeli strike had transported Yemeni pilgrims twice daily to Saudi’s Mecca ahead of the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage, and the plane carried some 300 passengers to the holy city earlier this week.

Israel has claimed that the airport in Sana’a and an aircraft were used for terror purposes while striking the plane. The airport director, Khaled al-Shaief, stated that the attack destroyed the last operation plane. “Zionist enemy targeted the last operational Yemeni Airlines plane at Sana’a International Airport, and completely destroyed it,” a rough translation of an X post by the airport director reads.

Earlier, Yemen’s Houthis group had fired two projectiles towards Israel that were shot down by Tel Aviv’s air defenses. The Houthis later confirmed that they had launched two “ballistic missiles” at Tel Aviv. Houthis have been targeting Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, who have been reeling under a heavy Israeli offensive, blockade, starvation and constant aerial attacks, killing hundreds.

At least 28 people have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza in the last 24 hours, including eight killed in an attack on the home of Gaza journalist Osama al-Arbid in the northern Strip, while the Jewish nation’s warplanes have bombed Yemen’s Sana’a airport for the second time to deter them from defending Palestinians.

Despite the international pressure to allow aid to the beleaguered strip since Israel-imposed two months full blockade on Gaza killed several people, nothing has changed in the territory, according to a report by Al Jazeera, citing a 40-year-old Bassam Daloul. “Death continues, and Israeli bombing does not stop, even hoping for a ceasefire feels like a dream and a nightmare,” the media house quoted Bassam Daloul.
