Washington DC, United States: US president Donald Trump said on Thursday that cannot annex the occupied West Bank as the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his ruling dispensation has been pressing for annexation of the Palestinian territory.
The remark was made a day before the Israeli Prime Minister’s arrival in the US to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, the US president said that he will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. “Nope. I will not allow. It’s not gonna happen,” Trump stated. However, he did not talked much about the actions he may take to prevent the Jewish nation from a potential annexation drive of the occupied West Bank.

In July this year, Israel’s parliament approved a symbolic measure calling for the annexation of the occupied West Bank, with 71-13 votes in favour of the motion, which called for Israeli sovereignty to Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley. The call had noted that annexing the West Bank will strengthen the state of Israel, its security and prevent any questioning of the fundamental right of the Jewish people to peace and security in their homeland.
However, with Trump’s assertion that he will not allow Israel to annex occupied west bank, analysts are doubtful if he would follow through. According to Mouin Rabbani, an analyst and non-resident fellow at the Qatar-based Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, a person who attaches value to Trump’s words at their own peril.
“So the question now becomes, is he going to ensure that Israel does not annex the West Bank, and if it does, what will he do about it? Will his mind perhaps be changed by another conversation that he has?” Al Jazeera quoted the expert.
