297 Indian Antiquities Handed Over By The US During Modi's Visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a 3-day state visit to the United States from September 21-23. PM Modi’s visit has seen a major development in terms of restoration and recognition of Indian art and culture. The United States has returned 297 Indian antiquities to India. The information is shared by Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, GoI.

While sharing the information on social media ‘X’, Randhir Jaiswal wrote, “Taking forward the resolve- VIKAS BHI, VIRASAT BHI! During PM’s visit to the USA, 297 Indian antiquities have been handed over by the US side”.

As per the information shared by the MoEA, the artifacts handed over by the USA to India include – 178 Terracotta figures from Eastern India, Artifacts from Jammu & Kashmir, 47 antiquities from North India, 28 from Central India, 35 from South India and 3 from Western India.

  • Buddha Sandstone North India (UP) (5th – 6th Century CE)
  • Vishnu Bronze Eastern India (17th-18th Century CE)
  • Anthropomorphic figure Copper North India (2000-1800 BCE)
  • Jain Tirthankara Bronze South India (17th-18th Century CE)
  • Apsara Sandstone Central India (10th – 11th Century CE)
  • Stone Sculpture Lime Stone South India (1st Century BC – 1st Century CE)
  • Conical Base Terracota Eastern India (2nd-3rd Century CE)
  • Rattle Terracotta Eastern India (2nd-3rd Century CE)
  • Stone Head -North India (16th-17th Century CE)
  • Rectangular Box -Ivory -Western India (19th Century CE)
  • Plaque -Wood- South India (17th-18th Century CE)
  • Copper Coin (More than 100 years old)
  • Vishnu – Bronze – Northern India (18th-19th Century CE)
  • Rectanglular box -Wood Inlaid With Ivory – Western India (19th Century CE)
  • Parikara – Bronze (15th-16th Centuary CE)
