Alert: Fake Evacuation Calls In Qatar Seek Qatar ID Copies Amid Iran–Gulf Tensions
Amid rising tensions in the Gulf following Iranian retaliation against US-linked military targets, residents in Qatar are being warned about fraudulent calls falsely claiming to coordinate “evacuations.”
Scammers are reportedly asking individuals to send front and back copies of their Qatar ID, citing security or emergency relocation purposes.
Authorities have clarified that no such mass evacuation process is being conducted via phone calls and have urged the public not to share personal identification details with unknown callers.
The warning comes at a time of heightened regional anxiety after Iran signalled retaliation for joint US–Israel strikes.
Emergency sirens were heard near the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the Middle East and the forward headquarters of US Central Command.
While Qatar has not announced any civilian evacuation plans, the spread of misinformation has added to public concern.
Across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, security measures have been tightened. In Saudi Arabia, attention has focused on the Prince Sultan Air Base, which hosts US air defence systems including Patriot and THAAD batteries.
In Kuwait, US military facilities such as Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base are considered strategically significant amid fears of potential spillover.
Elsewhere in the region, the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama and the Al Dhafra Air Base remain under close watch as airspace restrictions and military alerts continue.
Officials across GCC countries are advising residents to rely only on verified government communications and official media channels for updates. Cybersecurity experts warn that crisis situations often lead to a spike in scams exploiting public fear.
Authorities in Qatar have stressed that any legitimate emergency instruction would be communicated through official government platforms, not unsolicited phone calls requesting sensitive identification documents.
