As the year further unfurl, Canada”s immigration system is bustling with issuing new developments. These  developments may include potential changes which includes Canada”s immigration policy priorities and permanent residence levels, updates to the parents and grandparents, international students and work permit programs.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may release a new Ministerial Mandate letter which acts as instructions to ministers from Prime Minister on the government”s objectives for their term.

Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) headed by Canada”s Immigration Minister, Marc Miller.

The last mandate letter requested the minister to welcome newcomers, to reunite families and bolster Canada”s economic growth, under the Immigration Level Plan.

The plan outlines the targets of the number of permanent residents admissions and breaks the date down to class of immigrations (economic, family, refugee or humanitarian).

2023-2025 plan shows by the end of 2025 Canada will accommodate 500,000 new permanent residents per year among which 301,250 will be economic class.

Whether IRCC will increase or decrease the target 2024-2026 plan is yet to be revealed.

Express Entry has undergone some changes.

Candidates with experience in sectors like Healthcare, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Trades, such as Carpenters, plumbers and Contractors, Transport and Agriculture and Agri-food culture sectors.

According to recent report by Globe and Mail, 28 to 31 percentage of Express Entry invitations are likely to go to candidates with experience STEM professions.

IRCC invites parents and grandparents of Canadian Citizens and permanent residents to apply for family class sponsorship annually through PGP (Parents and Grandparents Programme). The new permanent resident admission through PGP is 28,500 for 2023 and is expected to be 36,000 by the end of 2025.

Mr. Miller said that Canada IRCC and Global Affairs Canada are conducting reviews of Canada”s International Student Programme (ISP) and is expecting to welcome 900,000 international students this year.

On June 27, IRCC has also announced a new Tech Talent Strategy to attract more newcomers in Technology sector.
