Joe Biden’s Vice President Kamala Harris has taken the baton of the US Presidential Democratic Candidate after the incumbent President announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race due to concerns over his age and ability.
The Democrats are set to gather in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, a tradition during the Presidential election. While the US is just 3 months away from the elections, Democrats hope that the convention will serve as a strong show of unity behind the Harris-Walz ticket.
The Democratic National Convention is a formal gathering held every four years. During this, the party’s nominees for presidential and vice president are formally selected. The convention serves as a way to drum up enthusiasm for the Democratic ticket.
The 2024 convention will start on August 19 and run until August 22 in Chicago, Illinois.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, have been announced as Presidential and Vice-presidential candidates respectively, by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) on August 6. Democrats held a virtual roll call vote and Harris has earned the majority Democratic delegate’s support.
The official roll-call vote happens at the convention. But the party has opted for a virtual roll call beforehand as Democrats had raised concerns over some procedural issues.
The roll call vote at the Democratic National Convention will be ceremonial since Harris and Walz have already been confirmed.
Donald Trump has been officially confirmed as the Republican candidate at the Republican National Convention held in July. His running mate, US Senator JD Vance has also been confirmed at the Republican Convention.
