Former Prime Minister David Cameron Appointed New Foreign Secretary

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak appointed former Prime Minister David Cameron as the new Foreign Secretary on Monday. The move comes after James Cleverly replaced Suella Braverman, who was forced to resign for sending an official document from her personal email to a fellow MP. This was a serious breach of ministerial rules.

The unprecedented development, in which a former Prime Minister returned to high office, came as part of a reshuffle. Cameron served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2016, before resigning after losing the Brexit referendum.

On his appointment, Cameron said, “Though I may have disagreed with some individual decisions, it is clear to me that Rishi Sunak is a strong and capable Prime Minister.”

According to Sunak”s office, King Charles has approved Cameron”s appointment, while the House of Lords has granted him a dispensation to return to government as a minister. Cameron is not an elected member of the UK Parliament.

Cameron”s appointment comes amid controversy about his alleged interactions with senior ministers in 2020 to lobby for his firm. After resigning as Prime Minister, Cameron went into business and wrote his memoirs.
