Paris, France: As Israel continues its aggressive bombing across Gaza, indiscriminately killing hundreds of civilians daily and destroying the strip, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on Tuesday stated that his country is “determined to recognise a Palestinian state.”
Condemning Israel for its atrocities in Gaza, the minister blamed the Jewish nation for the civilians’ “indefensible” situation, created by its military campaign and humanitarian blockade.

Since last midnight, at least 60 Palestinians have been bombed to death by Israeli forces, apart from blocking humanitarian aid, pushing many to death due to starvation. After asserting its decision, the French foreign minister also reaffirmed that Paris backed a Netherlands-led initiative for a review of the cooperation agreement between the European Union and Israel, which could affect political and economic ties.
Barrot said that the country cannot leave the children of Gaza a legacy of violence and hatred, adding that that is why it is determined to recognise a Palestinian state.
“And I am actively working toward this, because we want to contribute to a political solution in the interest of the Palestinians but also for the security of Israel,” the minister said, Arab News quoted.
The Minister was speaking after Macron joined British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in a joint statement against Israel’s Gaza atrocities.
After more than two and a half months of a complete blockade of the Palestinian territory, Israel only authorised a limited amount of humanitarian aid which was totally insufficient to end the catastrophic humanitarian situation, notes Barrot. He stated that the Israeli government has turned Gaza into a death trap if not a cemetery, while stating that “I warn Israel, when you sow violence, you harvest violence.”

The leaders of Canada, France and the UK have recently threatened to take “concrete action”, including sanctions against Israel if it does not end its renewed offensive in Gaza.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Golan slammed the Netanyahu government, saying it is full of people with no morals. “He said the country is becoming a pariah state like South Africa was, if it doesn’t return to acting like a sane country,” Golan, who previously served as the military’s deputy chief of staff, said.
