Prime Minister Narendra Modi posed for a selfie with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai. Earlier on Friday, PM Modi met Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and said that he looks forward to collaborative efforts between India and Italy for a prosperous and sustainable future.

“Good friends at COP28. #Melodi,” wrote the 46-year-old Italian leader on her X handle while sharing the selfie with PM Modi. At the time of the update, the post had collected over 12 million views and over 1,86,000 likes on X. Meanwhile, PM Modi landed at Delhi airport on Friday late night after participating in the Conference of Parties-28 (COP28). “A visit defined by fruitful engagements with global leaders and path-breaking initiatives for accelerating global climate action concludes,” wrote MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on X.

On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met other world leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Turkish President Erdogan. PM Modi also had discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

During the COP28 speech on Friday, PM Modi called on all nations to work together to cut global emissions drastically. The Prime Minister also said that India”s emissions are very low compared to other countries whose population is much smaller. “We do not have much time to correct the mistakes of the last century,” added PM Modi.
