Kamala Harris Secures Enough Delegates To Become Democrat's Presidential Nominee

Kamala Harris has secured the delegates to soon become the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, announced the official social media handles of the party. Virtual voting by Democratic National Committee delegates across the country was underway one hour ago on Friday.

Meanwhile, the official X handle of Vice President Kamala Harris said she is honoured to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, and added that she will officially accept the nomination next week.

“This campaign is about people coming together, fueled by love of country, to fight for the best of who we are,” the message posted on the X handle said.

Kamala Harris, who was endorsed by many major voices from the Democratic Party after current US President Joe Biden left the campaign after he faced heavy criticism, mainly due his health conditions.

Harris will face Republican Party’s Donald Trump, Libertarian Party’s Chase Oliver, American physician and activist Jill Stein, philosopher and public intellectual Cornel West, and environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the US Presidential elections that is said to be held on November 5, 2024.

Indian-origin Kamala Harris, born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California, has had a distinguished career in public service. A graduate of Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Harris began her career as a prosecutor in Alameda County. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the District Attorney of San Francisco in 2004. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California, the first woman and the first person of colour to hold the position.

In 2016, Harris won a seat in the U.S. Senate, representing California. As a senator, she became known for her sharp questioning in committee hearings and her advocacy for justice reform, healthcare, and immigration. In 2020, Harris made history as the first female, first Black, and first South Asian Vice President of the United States after joining Joe Biden’s presidential ticket.

Throughout her career, Harris has been a trailblazer, consistently breaking barriers and advocating for equality and justice.
