Russian President Vladimri Putin and North Korean President Kim Jong Un met on Wednesday at Vostochny Cosmodrome Spaceport for the alleged munitions talk. As per reports, the two leaders will exchange artillery shells and information on advanced technologies.

As per Russian state media, Mr. Putin was “very glad to see” Mr. Kim, while Mr. Kim thanked Mr. Putin for the invitation to visit Russia “despite being busy”.

Mr. Putin shared a ” you drink, no you drink first” picture on X (formerly twitter), showing Mr. putin and Mr. Kim smiling warmly over a drink.

According to analysts, Russia is in dire need to re-stock their depleting weaponries for their war on Ukraine as Ukraine”s counteroffensive attacks are gaining girth from several alleys especially US. And North Korea is going south on its food supply since the country sealed borders at the time of Covid 19 pandemic. Also North Korea yearns to have more inputs on advanced technologies for creating spy satellites and nuclear-powered submarines.

The summit between the two internationally isolated nations has been in the top billing for several reasons.

The two nations have been warned by the West about sanctions upon trading weapons.

This is the first time Kim Jong Un leaving his country in four years. The leader rarely leaves his country. His first trip to a foreign country was in 2018, seven years after got entitled as President of North Korea.

The North Korean border has only recently been opened after its closure in 2020 as a result of Covid 19.

Russia never kept a close relation with North Korea before. In fact, Russia twice accentuated its support with UN Security Council”s sanctions against North Korea for its nuclear weapons and missile programmes which was in its embryonic stage.

Powerful country like Russia seeking aid from small country like North Korea, especially when the latter has isolated itself for many years, itself seek attention.

According to US, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reached Pyongyang (capital of North Korea) seeking more ammunition support from North Korea. US has already warned North Korea will “pay the price” if it defied UN Security Council resolutions on making amy sort of arms deal with Russia.

Since the Covid 19 pandemic, North Korea has been struggling to keep their food supplies afloat. The country may also seek aid in their energy supplies from Russia. According to analysts, Mr. Kim expects information on advanced military technologies and spy satellite.

While Kim Jong Un was in Russia, hours before his meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korea fired two short-ranged ballistic missile off its east coast, as per South Korea”s Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Japanese Coast Guard. Both the missile had fallen into sea.
