Los Angeles: Matthew Perry’s death reported to be an accident caused by “acute effects of ketamine”. The medical officials in Los Angeles confirmed the reason. The primary report of the cause of death was listed as drowning. Another reason that may have contributed to his death was given as coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects, which is usually used to treat opioid use disorder, said Los Angeles county medical examiner.
“At the hight levels of ketamine found in his post-mortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression”, said, Raffi Djabourin, senior deputy medical examiner, as quoted by Press Association. As the star went into the state of unconsciousness due to the myocardial effects caused by the ketamine, drowning also might have contributed to his death, said the report.
Ketamine is a “dissociative anesthetic hallucinogen” that are mainly given under medical supervision as an anesthetic. Report said, Mr. Perry might have used for recreational use. While the drug may not stop the breathing like opioids or other anesthetics, but the it can stop one from waking up, giving the user a “dissociative experience”. Ketamine has been widely used recently for its medicinal purposes, especially in major cases of depression.
