Nicaragua”s Sheynnis Palacios emerged as the Miss Universe for the year 2023 on Sunday. The beauty queen of the year crafted history by becoming the first woman to be crowned as Miss Universe from Nicaragua. The pageant is said as the greatest celebration of women across the world, overlapped to various vibrant cultures and landscapes.
The 23-year-old Ms Palacios was crowned by the 2022 Miss Universe winner R’Bonney Grabriel. She glanced a stunning look in a creamy-silver gown with a striking blue cape – which was a resemblance to the flag of her country, a tribute to the homeland. The event was held in Central America’s El Salvador.
Ms Palacios represented her country and impressed the judging panel with her wise attitude on major social concerns of the era, including the need to address critical issues, climate change, and gender equality. She showcased her in-depth understanding of the topics in the question-answer segment.
It was the 72nd edition of Miss Universe pageant and was praised for its attempts in promoting diversity and representation. Significantly the competition thus included two transgender women, two mothers, and a plus-size.

It was in September this year; the iconic annual international beauty pageant had come up with the historic decision of eliminating the upper age limit for contesting. The change was announced by R’Bonney Gabriel during Tanner Fletcher’s show at New York Fashion Week. The change, that allows any women of 18 or above to participate in the pageant, will be reflected officially from 2024 and is applicable to all Miss Universe and associated pageants. So far, women up to the age of 28 were only allowed.
Miss Universe is an annual international major beauty pageant that is run by a United States- and Thailand-based Miss Universe Organization. It is one among the Big Four international beauty pageants along with Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
